General Questions
-
What is PDFologist?
PDFologist is an online collection of tools for common PDF and document tasks, including combining files, separating pages, compressing PDFs, converting supported formats, working with scanned documents, and making selected changes to a PDF. Each tool is designed for a particular task; see the Features page to find a suitable starting point.
-
Do I need to install software or create an account?
The published tool workflows do not show a sign-up or installation step for standard operations. You use the tools through a web browser with JavaScript enabled. The page and some processing libraries still need an internet connection to load, and processing performance depends partly on your device and browser.
-
Can I use PDFologist on a phone or tablet?
You can open the website in a mobile browser, but the experience depends on the browser, device resources, file size, and the controls provided by the individual tool. Large or complex PDFs may be easier to process on a desktop or laptop. PDFologist does not publish a comprehensive browser-and-device compatibility matrix, so a particular tool may behave differently across devices.
Using PDFologist
-
How do I use a PDFologist tool?
Open the page for the task you need, review the supported input types and available options, and select or drag the relevant file into the tool. Choose the requested settings and start processing. When the result is ready, download it and open the downloaded file to check that it contains the pages and information you expected. Keep a separate copy of important originals.
-
How can I merge, split, or rearrange PDF pages?
Use Merge PDF to combine supported PDF files, Split PDF to create separate files or page ranges, or Organize PDF to change page order. These tools have different controls, so read the instructions on the selected page and check the page sequence in the downloaded result.
-
What should I do if a file will not process or the tool gets stuck?
First, confirm that the file type is accepted by that tool and that the document opens normally in a PDF reader or its original application. If processing stalls, check your connection, allow externally hosted processing libraries to load, and try again in an up-to-date browser with other resource-intensive tabs closed. For a very large or complex file, try a smaller copy when appropriate. Keep the original unchanged and review any downloaded output before using it.
Formats and Results
-
Which file formats are supported?
Available tools cover tasks such as JPG to PDF, Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, HTML to PDF, PDF to JPG, PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, PDF to PowerPoint, and PDF to PDF/A. Supported extensions and options vary by tool; check the selected page instead of assuming that every tool accepts the same formats.
-
Will a converted PDF or document look exactly like the original?
Not always. Conversion can affect fonts, spacing, page breaks, tables, images, formulas, hyperlinks, reading order, and other document features. The result depends on the source file and the conversion method. Open the output and compare important content with the original, especially before submitting or sharing a business, academic, financial, or legal document.
-
What does OCR do, and will it recognize every word correctly?
OCR PDF attempts to recognize text in scanned or image-based PDF pages so that the recognized text can be searched or selected. Accuracy can be affected by low resolution, blur, skew, unusual fonts, handwriting, and page layout. Review the recognized text against the scan before relying on names, dates, amounts, or other important details.
-
Does converting a file to PDF/A guarantee archival or regulatory compliance?
No. The PDF to PDF/A tool generates an output intended for the PDF/A format, but a successful download is not proof that the file meets every archival, legal, or organizational requirement. Where compliance matters, validate the result with an appropriate independent PDF/A validator and check the recipient's requirements.
-
Does the Sign PDF tool create a certified digital signature?
The Sign PDF tool adds a visible signature mark that can be drawn, typed, or supplied as an image. A visible mark does not itself verify identity, provide a certificate-based digital signature, establish a complete audit trail, or guarantee that a recipient will accept the document. Check the signature requirements that apply to your use case.
-
How does Redact PDF affect the original document content?
The current Redact PDF workflow re-renders pages into flattened, image-based pages and applies the black redaction areas to those page images. This can remove selectable text and other features from the output, so text search, links, metadata, and image quality may differ from the original. Download and inspect the result carefully. For documents with legal or regulatory requirements, use an appropriate independent redaction review rather than relying on appearance alone.
File Handling and Privacy
-
Are my selected documents uploaded to a PDFologist processing server?
PDFologist's standard document tools are designed to read and process selected files in your browser, rather than send them to a central PDFologist conversion server. The website still loads scripts, fonts, and other resources, including some processing libraries hosted by third parties. Browser-based file processing should therefore not be treated as a promise that every website request or piece of technical information stays on your device. See the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for more information.
-
How long are files kept, and are they automatically deleted?
There is no single published retention period for temporary file data across every tool and browser. A tool may hold data in browser memory or temporary browser objects while it works, and downloaded copies are handled by your browser and device. PDFologist should not be used as long-term file storage. Save the result you need and keep your own copy of important source documents. The website does not promise a universal automatic-deletion time for every tool.
-
Is it appropriate to process confidential or highly sensitive documents?
Consider the sensitivity of the document and the requirements that apply to it before using any online service. Browser-based processing can reduce the need to send a file to a conversion server, but it is not an absolute security or confidentiality guarantee, and the website uses external resources and analytics services. For highly sensitive records, choose a workflow whose security and handling practices meet your organization's or legal obligations. Keep backups of important originals.
Limits and Support
-
Is there a maximum file size?
There is no single site-wide file-size limit shared by every tool. In the current implementations, Protect PDF rejects files larger than 200 MB, while PDF to PDF/A rejects files larger than 50 MB. These are limits for those specific tools, not a guarantee that every file below the stated size will process successfully. Other tools may be constrained by available browser memory, document complexity, and their own controls.
-
Are the tools free, and are all uses unlimited?
PDFologist presents its online tools as free to use, and the standard tool workflows do not show a payment or account step. The current site does not provide a central plan table or one published usage quota for every tool, so do not assume that every tool has identical limits or that terms can never change. Check the instructions on the relevant tool page for its available options and restrictions.
-
How can I contact PDFologist for help?
Use the Contact page to send a question, report a technical problem, or suggest an improvement, or email AyoubGuh@gmail.com. PDFologist is operated by an individual, and the Contact page states an aim of responding within 24 to 48 business hours; that is an aim rather than a guaranteed response time. Please avoid including sensitive document contents unless they are necessary to explain the issue.
